Moulding & Millwork — Where the Details Make the Difference
Western Window & Door supplies EL & EL Wood Products moulding — California's most trusted name in trim, baseboard, casing, and crown — for homeowners, contractors, and builders throughout Northern California.

Paint colors get chosen. Flooring gets installed. Cabinets go in. And then — at the very end — moulding goes up. And that's when a house starts to feel like a home.
Moulding is the detail that most people don't consciously notice, but immediately feel. It's what gives a room its character, its weight, its sense of craftsmanship. Get it right, and every doorway, every ceiling transition, every window frame looks intentional and complete. Skip it or cut corners, and the whole space feels unfinished — no matter how much went into everything else.
At Western Window & Door, we supply moulding and millwork from EL & EL Wood Products — one of the largest distributors of mouldings and millwork products in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Whether you're trimming out a single room remodel or spec'ing moulding for an entire new construction project, we'll help you find the right profile, the right species, and the right quantity.
EL & EL Wood Products specializes in exceptionally fine wood and urethane mouldings, interior and exterior doors, carvings, columns, and mantels. For nearly forty years, EL & EL has been a family-owned and operated company committed to providing superior personal service and product quality — with a serious commitment to green practices, including FSC Chain of Custody Certification to ensure natural resources are protected for future generations.
In 2022, EL & EL was acquired by Metrie® — a family-owned, long-time market leader in the moulding, millwork, and door business in Canada and across the US. The result is the same trusted products and the same California-focused team, now backed by even greater resources and inventory depth.
All in-stock items are delivered within one to two working days, or by the next scheduled delivery day. Custom lead time on custom resin millwork is 2–5 days from date of order.

Baseboard is the workhorse of interior trim — the moulding that runs along the base of every wall in the house, covering the joint where drywall meets floor and giving the room a clean, polished foundation.
Baseboards are placed along the wall at the floor and should be chosen to work in harmony with your casings to finish and tie the room together. But they're more versatile than most people realize. Baseboards are excellent when turned upside-down and used with crown mouldings to form larger crown details, and with the addition of panel mouldings, baseboards can be made taller — creating a more substantial baseboard or more dramatic crown details.
Pro Tip: Baseboard should always be installed after casing, and should be thinner than the casing profile.
Casings define the overall character of a room and are often the most visible part of the trim. Every door and window in your home has a gap between the drywall and the frame — casing covers that gap cleanly and turns what would be a raw edge into a designed detail.
Casing moulding can be used as door casing and window casing, as trim around the window or door, and also as large chair rails or upper horizontal linear banding around rooms. The right casing sets the design tone for an entire interior — whether you're going for clean and contemporary, traditional and detailed, or something in between.
Pro Tip: Casing should always be thicker than baseboard and generally narrower — the thicker end goes to the outside, the thinner edge to the inside of the door.
Crown is where moulding becomes architecture. Crowns are placed along the wall at the ceiling and come in a wide range of patterns and sizes — they soften the transition from wall to ceiling while adding a distinctive look and charm to any room.
What makes EL & EL's crown selection genuinely useful is its flexibility. Crown mouldings can be used alone or built up using lineal mouldings — such as baseboards, casings, chair rails, or panel mouldings — to create larger details and unique designs. This means the same catalog serves everything from a simple single-piece crown on an 8-foot ceiling to an elaborate built-up cornice detail on a grand entryway with 12-foot ceilings.
EL & EL offers an expansive selection of MDF crown moulding profiles as well as crown available in pine and many hardwood species.

Chair rails are used approximately 30 to 40 inches from the floor, running horizontally to form a wainscot look. Chair rail mouldings can also be used as panel mouldings to form panels on walls or ceilings. They add visual division to a room, protect walls from furniture contact, and create a layered, designed look that reads as intentional and high-end.
Panel moulding takes this further — used to create rectangular or square frames on walls and ceilings that add depth, dimension, and traditional craftsmanship to otherwise flat surfaces.
Not every wall is perfectly flat. Not every ceiling meets at a clean 90 degrees. And not every project fits standard straight-run profiles. That's where EL & EL's Valuflex™ flexible moulding comes in.
EL & EL manufactures Valuflex™ on their own premises to provide the highest quality urethane in today's market — it can be used for most interior profiles and carries a limited 5-year warranty against cracking or splitting on interior applications. Most profiles in EL & EL's catalog are available in flexible moulding, with lead times averaging 2–5 days from the date of order. This is the go-to solution for curved walls, arched doorways, round rooms, and any application where a rigid moulding simply won't work.

Beyond the core moulding categories, EL & EL's full lineup also includes door headers and top caps, backbands, base shoe and quarter round, corbels, T&G wainscot, shiplap, finish boards (S4S and S3S), wood carvings, columns, and mantels — everything a contractor or finish carpenter needs to complete a room from floor to ceiling.
One of the reasons EL & EL has held its position as California's go-to moulding supplier for decades is the depth of its material selection. The right species depends on your finish plan, your budget, and how the moulding will be used.
EL & EL's Moulding Matchmaker guide helps you choose the right profile for your space — covering species including Ultralight MDF, FJ Pine, Solid Pine, Fir, Poplar, Oak, and more.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) — The most paintable option. Smooth, consistent, with no grain variation, MDF takes primer and paint beautifully. It's the standard choice for painted interiors and is available across the widest range of EL & EL profiles.
Finger-Jointed (FJ) Pine — A cost-effective, paint-grade option. FJ pine is engineered from shorter wood pieces for a stable, affordable profile that's ideal for projects where the moulding will be painted.
Solid Pine — Paintable or stainable with a natural wood grain. A step up from FJ pine in appearance, solid pine is a versatile all-around choice.
Douglas Fir — Naturally beautiful grain that stains exceptionally well. A popular choice in craftsman and mid-century interiors where the wood itself is part of the design.
Hardwoods — Including poplar, oak, alder, and maple — offer densely packed fibers with an unmatched ability to display and maintain profile detail, showing off a beautiful, timeless face that elevates your moulding from a detail of the room to the centerpiece of it.
Urethane / Valuflex™ — Paintable, lightweight, and flexible. Best for curved applications and exterior-adjacent installations where wood movement is a concern.

They're all moulding — but they serve different purposes in different locations. Baseboard goes along the wall at the floor, casing covers the gap between the wall and door or window frames, and crown sits where the wall meets the ceiling. Together, a coordinated set of all three gives a room its complete, finished look.
If you're painting — MDF is hard to beat. It's smooth, stable, and takes paint cleanly without grain raising. If you're staining or if the moulding is in a high-humidity room (like a bathroom), solid wood or a species like alder or oak is a better call. We'll help you make the right choice based on your project.
Yes — that's exactly what Valuflex™ is for. Most profiles in EL & EL's catalog are available in flexible moulding, with lead times averaging 2–5 days from the date of order.
As a general rule: casing should always be thicker than baseboard, and generally narrower. Crown should feel proportional to the ceiling height — taller rooms can handle more elaborate built-up details. When in doubt, bring us your room dimensions and we'll help you select a coordinated set.
All in-stock EL & EL items are delivered within one to two working days, or by the next scheduled delivery day. Custom lead time on specialty and resin millwork is 2–5 days from date of order.
